The Rebound Set – George + Ginger

Kristi is back at it and starting the year with a bang.
If there is one thing I love more than a quick sew, it’s a pattern that works overtime in my wardrobe. Enter: The Rebound Set. When Kristi first shared the design, I was immediately ready to dive right in. It’s no secret how much I love a versatile piece (mainly because I never shut up about it! 😅) and this pattern set is exactly that.

The Rebound is a multi-piece set that includes a base top and three options for incredible shrug/bolero-style overlays. They can completely transform an outfit and are incredibly fun to mix and match. I had to have some fun with it, so let me show you what I made!
View A

View A features a really cool asymmetrical neckline that is super fun (and easy) to sew. I used a mystery knit… I’m guessing we can call it a quilted or stepped jacquard. I opted for the neckband option and I love how it turned out!

I originally made this top to pair it with, but it was one of those “it looked better in my mind” cases.
It’s not bad… but it’s just a meh combo. Luckily, all the Rebound pieces are great to mix and match and the boleros look over other tops and dresses as well!
The tank is a knit jersey in the top length.

I especially love how this looks over a strapless piece; it makes the asymmetrical detail pop even more. How great is it to have a piece you can wear for a walk in the park and out for dinner? I’ll probably make a separate hood with this fabric later to bring the versatility up another notch! 😉

View B

This option is so cute and has so many possibilities! It’s the only view with different sleeve lengths and an optional buckle. I used an athletic knit for this one and paired it with a CL crop.

Here it is as a monochromatic set.
I love how it just elevates the casual long sleeve look, nothing I love more than feeling pj comfy and looking cute 😁

This is the top length, and I did the binding instead of a band.
And the pièce de résistance: I added the buckle!

I added the buckle! My buckle was slightly smaller than what the pattern called for, so I pleated the bolero to fit. I actually really love the “tied bow” vibe it gives off.

And yes, it also looks great with the dress! ❤️
View C

View C is a more traditional bolero-style hoodie. Just like View A, you have neckband and hood options. I used a sweatshirt fleece and went a tiny bit rogue with it (but not enough to call it a hack! 😉).
Since I’m slightly 3/4 sleeve obsessed and always pushing my sleeves up anyway, I decided to leave off the cuffs. This gave me the best of both worlds: the perfect length and that scrunched-up look I love.

And instead of a traditional hem, I left the edges raw and did a few rows of topstitching for extra detail.

Even though this has a sportier vibe that doesn’t “technically” match my black dress, I was on a roll… so why not? lol! I’ll definitely be making another View C with a neckband to pair with everything. That curved hem is so beautiful and flattering.

What I love most about George and Ginger patterns is how Kristi pushes the envelope on traditional silhouettes. The Rebound Set is a relatively quick sew, but the payoff is huge. You aren’t just sewing a tank and a bolero; you’re sewing a whole system of layering pieces!
Behind the scenes secret: I have to be honest with you guys… I was running out of time and daylight for the photos and couldn’t find the dress I wanted, so my ADHD-good-in-a-crisis superpower kicked in and this “black dress” is actually just a length of black tubular ribbing that I stepped into. 😂 If that isn’t a testament to how well these Rebound boleros can “elevate” an outfit, I don’t know what is!
Are you making a set as well? Which view is your favorite?
