Bali Top – Greenstyle Patterns

I love it when a basic pattern can be transformed into something totally different just by changing up the fabric, and the Bali Top by Greenstyle is a great example of that.
This pattern is designed for knit fabrics and has a super cute silhouette with center front ruching.
There are a lot of options included in the pattern, making it great for all year round. You also get a choice between elastic or ties for the gathering.
I’ve been in my virtual races/walking era and been trying to up my athletic wear wardrobe. And what better company for those than GS? ๐ The Bali Top is one of this month’s featured pattern so I gravitated to it. But as soon as I started going through my stash, the idea of a lace top got hold of my brain and demanded to become reality.
I had this soft blue stretch lace, and Iโm honestly obsessed with how it turned out. It gives off a Y2K softness without going full throwback… like low-key nostalgia. ๐

A Small Modification
Instead of adding the bands to the neckline and armscye as per pattern, I used a fold-and-stitch finish. It gives a cleaner, more delicate edge which is perfect for this fabric.
The top isn’t lined. I’m wearing a similar colored seamless bra underneath it.
I love that if you opt for the ties you can wear it in different ways: Looped around the neck like above or just tied down.

Because I made the ties a bit too long, instead of simply tying it at the bottom, I wrapped it around the waist and tied it on the back.

I can totally see myself making more Bali Tops in mesh, rib knit, or even try some sweater knits as a base layer for chillier months. It’s simple, quick, and instantly cute. If youโre looking for a no-fuss top with lots of potential, this oneโs worth trying!
What do you think?
Are Y2K vibes a fun throwback or a fashion trauma you’d rather forget? ๐
