One Fabric, Two Outfits: Simple Lines for a Statement Fabric

Sometimes the fabric just needs to do the talking. That’s exactly how I felt when I received this gorgeous Cotton Hollow Out 3D Embroidered Eyelet gifted from Longan Craft (psst… discount code at the end 😉).

The embroidery is full of beautiful detail and texture, so I knew right away that keeping the sewing patterns simple would let it truly shine.

Gathered Skirt + Field of Dreams Top

For the first look, I sewed a self-drafted gathered skirt using three times my waist measurement for maximum fullness and flow. I lined it with a lightweight cotton and added an invisible zip at the back for a clean finish.

For the top, I used the Field of Dreams pattern from Pattern Emporium.

I also lined it with cotton and made a small tweak: I shifted the dart placement so that it would better align with the lace design. It’s a tiny detail that makes a big difference when working with embroidered fabric.

The result? A fresh, romantic set that feels airy, timeless, and perfect for summer.

Melody Dolman Shirt

I didn’t want to waste a single scrap of this fabric, so with the leftovers I made a Melody Dolman from Love Notions. 😊

The eyelet makes this classic shirt feel instantly elevated while still being easy to wear with jeans or my favorite palazzos.

To adapt the pattern, I eliminated the self-facing and instead added a placket from Aria, using a simple cotton fabric.

I’m thrilled with how this one turned out!

This project reminded me how powerful it can be to keep your silhouettes simple when your fabric already has so much personality.

By letting the embroidery shine, I ended up with two very different but equally fantastic looks.
